Inferno: Geography of HellGeography of Hell General When an impure soul dies it immediately arrives on the shores of the river Acheron, along which grow black asphodels with seven petals and where stands a single dry, withered pomegranate tree. The soul is then escorted across the river Acheron by a personification of death (e.g. the Grim Reaper, Thanatos, Yama, etc.) to Limbo where it meets the four Judges: Minos, Rhadamanthus, Aeacus, and the soul’s Guardian Angel. It should also be noted that this is where Satan resides, forever chained to a stone throne and guarded by the Angel of Death, who is the archangel Samael, and the FInferno: Geography of Hell

Inferno: Judgment of SinsJudgment of Sins Through the judging of sins it is implied that there is something concrete that is being judged. Therefore there must exist something that represents one’s sins in one form or another. It is also said that the length of one’s life is predetermined so there must also be something that can measure time as a representation of one’s mortality or lifespan. Both of these measurements are combined in the form of an hourglass that serves the dual purpose of recording a soul’s sins and determining one’s lifespan.
